They currently offer an SDK to get Raspberry Pi to work with Flic, so I don't see why they couldn't get it to work with SmartThings once SmartThings opens up support for BT LE devices.

    Chad Baldwin commented  ·

I agree with supporting smart home systems. But the best request is for them to make a ZWave version of the Flic, this would support Animus, SmartThings, and many other smart home systems.

I feel like you could probably do this with the Tasker integration. I don't have a lot of experience with Tasker. But you can probably set it up to run a timer for X amount of time, and every time the Flic is pressed, it resets the Tasker timer. When the timer runs to zero, it performs some sort of action, you could even integrate it with IFTTT as well.

One thing I thought of, was rather than having conditional buttons, just make it conditional configs. They could provide a list of actions, much like IFTTT. And the flic app would say, "Which config do you want to use when the phone rings?", etc.

    Chad Baldwin commented  ·

You could even do stuff in IFTTT like, IF i connect to "this" bluetooth device, THEN load this config to my Flic.

Hmmm.....I'll recommend config loading as an action on IFTTT.

    Chad Baldwin commented  ·

I was just about to recommend this idea, I think it's awesome.

However, I think that the second part of your thing might be eventually possible before the first. Since it's possible to store and load different configs, maybe eventually IFTTT will support that as an action, then you can just set different times of the day to swich the configs on your flic.

Just a quick comment to add on to this idea.

The double sided tape that would be used for the back of the base should be provided separately and not already stuck on. WIth my Echo remote, it came with a piece of double sided tape separate. Which was perfect for me because I just mount the base to the metal fridge, so i don't need the sticky part.

This is one of the flaws I've found on the flic. It should have come separate. I usually keep my flic in my pocket when I'm out and about. So it's annoying to have that piece of plastic covering the sticky part on back.

Yeah, Like I said, I just use cheap magnets that I bought online and they work fine, but I still think this is a base they could make and people would buy it. Just would be nice to have something that matched the sleek look of the flic, rather than using a generic commercial item.

    Chad Baldwin commented  ·

And maybe a plain flat back for the Flic to accompany it. I never use the sticky portion on mine, and the clip is inconvenient for me personally. I usually just keep it in my pocket, or I use small neodymium magnets stuck to the wall to temporarily mount it places around the house.

    Chad Baldwin commented  ·

Make a magnetic base for the flic. This will work with the flic without requiring any design changes as it will attract the battery, the base just has to fit the flic. It would be sticky on one side, and magnetic on the other.

This base could be used/mounted in two ways...since it has a magnet, it could be mounted to anything metal/magnetic (sorry SS fridge owners...lol). And the sticky portion could be mounted to anything non-magnetic.

This idea is derived from the remote holder for the Amazon Echo. It is sticky on the back, but the magnets are strong enough to use them as mounts on anything magnetic as well as hold the remote.

I don't work for them, but I have Osram Lightify bulbs...and although it does not support it directly, you can do this through IFTTT.

You can already do this, you can have multiple configs and switch between them.

Not sure it this support was added later on, but you can do this with unified remote. Works great, I use it at home. I have netflix, hulu, plex, and vlc on my computer, so I set all of those up as toggle play pause...Since I only ever have one of those open at a time, it works great and works like a universal remote.

That would be pretty cool. A pre-loaded flic...seems useful for like tech support consultants and etc. In the tech industry, I could see this being useful to have in a server room.

Though the fact that it has to be connected to a phone seems like it's a set back. Would be nice if there was a wifi version like the Amazon dash button, where once it's pressed it can (like you said) send a text or an email requesting a callback.

However, I also believe that conditional buttons are also necessary, for local events. Like, when the phone rings, then the buttons quickly switch to the phone call config, and then when the phone call is over, it switches back to the original config it was last on. This is not my idea, someone else thought of it first, so go find their post.

Definitely agree. I have a SmartThings hub. Would love to see a WIFI, Zigbee or Zwave version of the Flic...SmartThings announced with the V2 hub that it has bluetooth support, but they haven't enabled it yet :(
